Getting the most from your personal profile

Once you complete the assessments, you can download your Personal Profile. We use this Profile, along with the other information you provided at registration, to match you with jobs, and it also gives you valuable self knowledge that can help you increase your success and fulfillment in and outside work.

What does my Profile mean?

Your Personal Profile maps your unique mix of performance-predictive competencies, skills and preferences.  Since different jobs make different demands on the jobholder, there is no such thing as a good or bad profile. A candidate whose profile is a strong match for one job is often a weak fit with another.

Aren’t high scores better than low?

Not necessarily.  When matching people to jobs, we look for fit, not score level.  No job draws on the maximum level of every single predictive factor, nor have we ever seen a candidate who maxes out across all factors.  What matters is the closeness of the match between your capability and what the job demands.  If a job does not require a competency or ability, but you consistently show high levels of that factor, you will likely get frustrated and risk disengagement and underperformance.

How do the competencies, skills, abilities and work environment preferences work together?

Top performance is usually driven by a repertoire, rather than one outstanding capability.  This repertoire is different for different people and different jobs.

To find out how how your capabilities work together, spend time reflecting on your Personal Profile.  Read through the definitions, think of real life examples, analyze your behavior to see if you demonstrate certain aspects of a predictive factor more than others, or apply that factor only in specific contexts.  Recall challenging situations as well as successes - tough times often bring out the best in us, and provide the clearest examples of what we are truly like. Think too about your environment preferences, and how they influence your performance.  The more you relate your Personal Profile to real life, the more you will get from it.

What use is this self-knowledge?

Knowing yourself is the best and fastest way to a fulfilling life and career. Once we know ourselves, we can make choices that meet our needs and bring out the best in us.

Unfortunately, most of us are not great judges of our own behavior. That's why your Personal Profile - an independent insight into how you are at work - is so useful. The aspects of your Profile that come as a surprise, or that you have trouble accepting, are often the areas where you can make the most difference. Read over the definitions and think about how the capabilities you wish to develop look in practice. Think about what you are doing well, and how you developed those strengths. Most of all, think about what you enjoy about work, and try to find ways to practice new behaviors gradually, and in rewarding ways.

Check back on your Personal Profile from time to time, to refresh your awareness of how you contribute, and to remind you of areas you wish to develop or to understand better. If you have access to the Career Positioning System (CPS), you will find it a very useful guide to turning the assessment results into real career and life success.
